Stigma is based on myths, prejudice, and hate. For people with opioid addiction, stigma hurts and, worse, prevents them from getting help and treatment. In the #StateWithoutStigMA campaign, we reframed the discussion into one simple, sobering truth: Addiction is Not a Choice. It’s a Disease. The campaign generated 1,579,574 video views, 11,164 Facebook post likes, and 4,295 Facebook post shares. In addition to state residents, nearly 77% of cities and towns “took the pledge” to fight stigma.
